TRIP LIST

Sunday 24th July 2011 – Coldbeck to Soutergate

Drove to Keswick in the north of the Lake District.  Lots of sheep on the road and we got close to a wind farm.  Don't know whether I have mentioned that we have seen a lot of wind farms both in England and Scotland.  It would be interesting to know what percentage of their electricity is produced from this source.

Keswick is a lovely town with a very extensive pedestrian-only area.

Had coffee and bought sandwiches to take on a walk along the lake (Derwent Water).  It was lovely looking over the lake.  In fact, John Ruskin, an artist, said of Keswick “almost too beautiful to live in”.  At one spot a bride and groom were having a photoshoot overlooking the lake.

Back to Keswick for a coffee at Costa (don’t know whether I mentioned that the reason we are always at Costa is because we know they always have soy milk and they always have a gluten-free option for a snack) – and they make good coffee.

Jill bought a polar fleece jacket and some Merrell sandals – much cheaper than we would pay in Australia.  We also bought a backpack for Jill and I bought a hat.

After the walk, we set off looking for a pitch (as they call campsites over here) for the night.  Ended up at Low Hall Farm at Soutergate near Kirkby-in-Furnace south of Conniston – a lovely spot.
