Packed up
and away at 8:30am heading for Hamersley Gorge.
The countryside was a repeat of the other day – Spinifex covered ridges,
red rocks and the beautiful Hamersley
Ranges in the
distance. We had heard that this road
was badly corrugated but managed to strike when the grader was busy at
work. You can be in the right place at
the right time sometimes.
On reaching
the range we drove up through the Rio Tinto Gorge (very narrow) before arriving
at Hamersley Gorge (part of Karijini
National Park ). This place is just amazing. The rock strata has been twisted and folded
into amazing shapes – just incredible shapes, form and colours. We climbed up the gorge a little way (rock
hopping you could call it) to find a quite large swimming hole. Again the water was cold and refreshing. At the beginning of this swimming hole there
was a small, round, almost enclosed pool with a tiny waterfall running into it.
