After we took Zappy back, Kathy dropped us off at Butchart Gardens a must-see so all the tourist information says. It was pretty right, the gardens are a must-see (despite the $28 entry fee) and quite inspirational. The gardens were originally started by the Butchart family who ran a cement factory on the site. It’s marvellous what has been done with what started off being a quarry. On the 55 acres, there are feature gardens – sunken, bog, rose, Japanese and Italian.

Friday 18th September – Llamas & Gardens
A lovely sleep last night in Kathy’s spare bed. After breakfast, we drove to Langford, near Victoria (about 30 minutes away) to take Kathy’s Llama, Zappy, for a walk. He is agisted at a Llama stud and there was quite a collection of them – and one Alpaca. Zappy got his halter on and off we went to Thetis Lake Park. He was quite happy walking along the old railway track turned into a walking track but not so keen where we had to walk along the road - not too keen on the traffic, which is understandable. He appeared to enjoy the walk as he trotted along with us. Was quite the crowd stopper with all the cars slowing down to have a look and everyone on the track stopping to have a chat.
