TRIP LIST

Thursday 3rd September - Calgary to Canmore

After a pleasant couple of days staying with Wendy and Charlie, it was off to Canmore today. We travelled via the Kananaskis which is south of the main No 1 highway.

This is truly beautiful country which runs south along the base of the Rockies. Towering peaks in the distance, bare above the tree line, many still with areas of snow on them. Water from Kananaskis River (dammed in many places) in the foreground and pine trees everywhere. We travelled south as far as Lower Kananaskis Lake.

After a visit to an information centre (Peter Lougheed Discovery Centre) and a picnic lunch we returned to the highway just as it began to rain. In several spots there were deer (we think mule deer), quite oblivious to the traffic.

Back on the highway, we headed for Canmore arriving at our accommodation, Worldmark - Canmore a bit after 5pm. We popped downtown to do some grocery shopping and arrived back to find the place in darkness - a blackout. Eventually, the power did come back on in time for us to cook a curry for tea. A spa and a swim (in a very nice heated pool) and some washing and we had made a day of it.
