A bit of washing this morning and then off to Exeter. Coffee was lovely sitting in the sunshine outside Costa. It’s a beautiful day. It’s interesting watching the passing parade: a woman draping herself across a smallish round seat, taking advantage of the sun and oblivious to the rest of the world; another woman carrying around some tiny dogs in a carry basket. Have we said how many dogs there are in England!! – all very well behaved – in towns, on the moors, in pubs – everywhere. Lots of shops have bowls of water out for them.

After a little shopping and lunch at the top floor café in Debenhams ( is that like The Benham’s) we went for a walk along the ruins of the Roman Wall. Amazing to think that the Romans were here as well. Also along a Norman Wall originally built in the time of William the Conqueror. Then through a park – beautiful annuals. One section of the park was a bit of a hangout – lots colourful looking characters – some amazing hairstyles – some Goths.

Exeter is an interesting city, how much of the shopping area has been recently rebuilt and is quite modern and then you turn the corner and are back in the ancient part of town with narrow winding lanes. We had a bit of a sit in the grounds of the Cathedral (with hundreds of others). Everyone is out today enjoying the sun. I went and had a look at the Cathedral. Quite spectacular inside and beautifully carved on the outside. Unfortunately, it must have been built from fairly soft stone and a lot of the carved figures on its exterior have weathered badly. When I returned the others asked if I had paid my £5. There was no-one collecting money when I went in so he/she must have vacated their spot for a minute.

We went looking for a sorbet but most shops were closing (now 4:30pm). Ended up with a Mango & Passion Fruit cooler from Costas (there’s three Costas with a few hundred metres of each other). It wasn’t as good as their coffee.
Back to Dunsford to pack for Wales.
