TRIP LIST

Tuesday 15th August 2017 - Galway to Claddaghduff

The bed must have been good last night as we slept in until 9am. That's a first. After a hot lemon drink, we headed into Galway for breakfast. Couldn't find the spot recommended by Milena and Mattie but found another which was excellent.

Had a bit of a walk around downtown Galway and then headed west towards Clifden.

This part of Ireland is called the Connemara. This area has a strong association with traditional Irish culture and contains a major part of the Connacht Irish-speaking Gaeltacht.  We haven't noticed a lot more people speaking Irish but have noticed that there is more of a concentration on Irish and less on English when it comes to signage.

Before Clifden, we detoured back to the coast to Roundstone where we had lunch in a nice pub overlooking the water (Seafood Chowder and Chicken vegetable soup).

From Roundstone, we drove around the coast to very busy Clifden where we stopped to stretch our legs.

Accommodation tonight is in an Airbnb near Claddaghduff. Anna was very informative about the area and suggested we go for a walk to Omey Island which can be reached at low tide. It ended up a long walk but enjoyable all the same.  The flowers along the side of the road were quite spectacular.

A late dinner tonight at Olivers, a seafood restaurant and bar, down the road at Cleggan. And very nice it was.
