This morning we discovered that the 7 4WDs that had come in during the night were the same group that we had seen at Steep Point a few days ago. Spoke to a young Finnish couple (the only non-Germans in the group) who told us that the group had been organised on the internet and that they had all been strangers before meeting on the first day. They were heading to Darwin.
Set off to Tom Price. As we got closer there was lots of evidence of mining - even travelled through a restricted area at one stage. A little shopping in Tom Price and then lunch at a lookout just out of town near sleeping Elephant Rock - did look a bit like a sleeping elephant.
Our destination was Dales Gorge camping area in Karijini National Park. After setting up camp we went for a walk to the Circular Pool Lookout. The sun was setting and the light on the gorge was quite amazing.
Dinner tonight was lamb steaks and 5 veg - lovely fresh veg from Carnarvon.
There was a Star Gazing event at Dales which Alex went along to (the last night that it would be on for some time) - Remteck Astronomy. This outback location means that stars can be seen with incredible clarity uninhibited by city or on-site facility lights. Could see the Omega Centauri globular cluster - 16000 light years distant and the stunning Jewel Box as well as the constellations mapped out. Quite fascinating.
