Saturday 16th June. Dale's Gorge Campground (Karijini)

Before breakfast, we went for a walk around the camping ground.  Had a chat to the young Argentinians who were camped next to us in a "Whizzbang".  They have to get to Broome soon to get jobs so that they can extend their visas.

Today we do the Dales Gorge walk, a climb down to the bottom of the Gorge (a little bit of a challenge - fairly loose in places and a steep descent).  Then a walk along to Fortescue Falls and Fern Pool before climbing back out.  The walk up the gorge is just amazing and has to be one of THE walks in the world - the vegetation changes quite often and the iron-rich gorge walls are an amazing colour.  Quite a bit of water in places, with stepping stones to cross.  Just incredible that there is so much water in such an arid environment.  At one point there are a few seams of blue asbestos - something to avoid.

Fortescue Falls was quite a popular spot with quite a few people swimming.  It's the only permanent waterfall in the park.   Fern Pool is just stunning - amazing colours and is also a sacred place for the local Indigenous people.

The walk back up was via a very solid staircase with handrails and even seats along the way.
The walk was just over three hours by the time we got back to camp.
