An icy cold wind this morning. Time to get the cold weather gear out again.
First stop this morning was the Western Australia/Northern Territory border - not that there is a lot to see. We pass a nice pristine welcome to Western Australia sign and get welcomed to the Northern Territory with a very grubby sign. Len Beadell's marker is more impressive.
We called into the Kintore Community for fuel (a little off the road). Fuel is in a bunker next to the Store. The store was very well stocked. Fuel was $2 per litre. We are getting closer to civilisation. Just east of Kintore we come across another of Len's markers at Sandy Blight Junction. The Sandy Blight Road runs from here down to Docker River on the Great Central Road.
The countryside is now changing - not as flat any more and with a range of hills to the South. Initially Cleland Hills and Watson Range and then Mount Liebig. It's here that the Gary Junction Road disappears to become Kintore Road. One more of Len's signs to mark the spot. Lots of paddymelons about on the side of the road. They can't be any good as nothing eats them.
The map says that there are quite a few bores in the area so I guess we may be also getting into farming country. There's certainly a lot more vegetation about. Passed a tank and a windmill on the side of the road. The windmill looked like it had been hit by a tornado. No water here.
WikiCamps found us our campsite for the night. Kunparrka (23kms west of Papunya). We attempted to drive in off the road but there was a lot of timber down so ended up camping just off the road.
