After breakfast, we headed to the Head of the Bight which is apparently one of the most spectacular whale watching sites in South Australia. No Wales today (too early in the season) although the lovely woman at the visitor centre said there had been some spouting spotted. We paid the small entrance fee (only $5 for seniors) and walked to the viewing platforms and boardwalk. Quite a spectacular spot even without the whales.
Next stop was Nullarbor Roadhouse and another golf hole and lunch. They had a Southern Right whale replica to actual size outside the roadhouse. The Roadhouse is quite an establishment with picnic areas and extensive accommodation. Also an attached airstrip with a visit from the Flying Doctor the day we were there.
We visited a few more lookouts along the way. Quite a bit of money has been spent on doing them up with heavy duty fences and lookouts. Lots of tracks also fenced off for revegetated.
We looked at a few possible campsites just before the Western Australia border but there are lots of people travelling at the moment and those easily accessible were already taken. On to the 10km Peg (from the border) and we were able to follow a track where we were able to set up camp overlooking the Great Australian Bight - another WickiCamp find. Had a lovely fire and made a huge Thai chicken curry with lots of veggies to use them up before crossing the border and passing through the quarantine Point tomorrow.
