Up nice and early for the two-and-a-half-hour trip to Jimboomba to drop off the camper at Road & Track RV for a few things to be done, mainly to swap the macerator toilet for an Ogo composting toilet. After breakfast in Jimboomba, it was up the hill to Mount Tambourine. First stop, Tambourine Rainforest Skywalk.
The skywalk was built in 2009 and consists of a 1.5 km trail that includes a combination of forest-floor tracks, 300 metres of high-tech steel bridges through the highest points of the upper canopy, and a 40 metre cantilever bridge that soars a breathtaking 30 metres above the creek and rainforest below. Lots of rainforest vegetation to see: huge canopy trees, providing habitat for many epiphytes; strangler figs; rainforest palms and many fern species. It's been well done and well worth the visit. It also has a nice little gallery featuring rainforest flora and fauna displays, a large freshwater aquarium, and local history panels. We even had lunch at on site Birdwing Café.
