TRIP LIST

Monday 14th September – Kamloops to Whistler

Dale and Marleigh had gone to school by the time we got up. We packed up and were off at the same time as Katie headed off to Uni (or school as it is called here).

Called into Horsting’s Farm, near Cache Creek to pick up some peaches. Quite a little community here. Just out of Lillooet we passed a sign “Spawning Channels”. A quick turn around and we discovered man-made channels that had been built to accommodate the loss of channels upstream in the Seton River (when the Seton Dam was built).

This time there were plenty of fish (Pink Salmon we think) in the channels. Perhaps the Pink Salmon run earlier that the Chinook (I think that’s what they were) in the Adams River. After they spawn the salmon die and there were already quite a few dead ones in the river.

The road from Lillooet to Pemberton is pretty amazing – steep and winding, between mountain peaks and past lakes. And over here they don’t have too many guide rails so it’s a matter of keeping your eyes on the road rather than look at the beautiful view while you are driving.

Got to Whistler and found our accommodation for the next two nights (Holiday Inn). We did a bit of a walk around Whistler – a pedestrian-only area through the centre of Whistler Village. Lots of construction going on prior to the Winter Olympics early next year.  Barbecue chicken and roast vegies from IGA for tea along with a tin of smoked oysters and crackers and a vodka and juice. We then popped down to Starbucks for a coffee (Jill rediscovered hot caramel apple juice) and to access the internet (as the network is not working at Holiday Inn). Back to bed for an early night.
