An earlier start today. We wanted to get to the Vermillion Lakes, just out of Banff in the hope that some wildlife would still be around. Didn't see any large animals, just some squirrels and waterbirds. We did, however, see a beaver dam which was pretty special.
From there it was off to the post office to post a parcel to Aylee and Nate, followed by a coffee in downtown Banff. We traded in our $ 20-day national parks pass, purchased yesterday, for a yearly pass. Was $136 which is a bit expensive but we figured it was probably nearly as cheap as buying daily passes (even when they do last most of the next day) and a lot more convenient seeing we will be in the park for 9 - 10 days.
We drove out to Surprise Point so we could get a good look at the Fairmont - Banff Springs hotel from the other side of the river. The hotel was part of the Railway's chain of hotels. This one was built in 1888 after the original was burnt down. It's an incredible building.
Back to Central Park, Banff for lunch. We were entertained by the local radio station doing an outdoor event.
After lunch, we returned to Canmore where they had a street market. It wasn't all that exciting. I think I've said it before. We are spoilt for markets in our neck of the woods. Back to the supermarket then the hotel for a restful rest of the day.
