Sunday 6th September - Bow Valley Parkway to Lake Louise

Up and away before 9 again! Took the Bow Valley Parkway towards Lake Louise. We were on the search for wildlife again and reports say that there would be more success on the Bow Valley Parkway than Highway 1.

Unfortunately for us, no one had told that to the wildlife today. We called into Johnston Canyon along the way and took the 7 km (return) walk up to both the lower and upper Johnston Falls. Was a lovely walk, some of it along cantilevered catwalks hanging off the canyon wall. This is the labour day long weekend in Canada so you can imagine how many others were doing the walk - like Pitt Street. The lady in the coffee shop said everything dies after Labour Day (tomorrow) so we have rearranged our agenda to leave the Lake Agnes walk at Lake Louise until Tuesday.

We drove on to Lake Louise and it really is the "Jewel of the Rockies". The lake is so blue with glaciers at the top end and the Chateau by its side. We went into the Chateau and thought we might have coffee and cake but unfortunately, they were still serving lunch and were not taking orders just for coffee. A gorgeous view out of the dining room windows onto the lake.

Checked out the information centre, the village centre and HI Lake Louise, where we will be staying the next two nights. Then it was back to Canmore (on the Bow Valley Parkway) for our last night here. Tea, some washing and a spa and it was time for bed.
