TRIP LIST

Tuesday 29th September - Longview to Newport

Up very early this morning and on the road at 6:30am.  Jill woke up early with a migraine so there was little point in going back to bed.  The morning wasn't helped a lot by the fact that it was raining.  Kept raining most of the morning with a break long enough for us to make the short walk to Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach.

Called in at the cheese factory at Tillamook and the many great spots along this rugged coast including a very pretty drive right on the coast near Depoe Bay (Cape Foulweather, Otter Rock and the Devil's Punchbowl).

By now the rain had stopped and the day was improving.  On to Newport with enough time to have a look at Nye Beach and the Bay area.

We are in a motel tonight (at Newport) looking out at the Pacific.  Apparently, they are expecting big seas later as a result of an earthquake in American Samoa.  They have searchlights lighting up the beach so that it can be seen from our window.  Nothing extraordinary yet.  We did, however, have a beautiful sunset over the ocean tonight.

It's interesting that all down the coast they have instructions to follow in case of a tsunami.  One couldn't say that they are not prepared.
