TRIP LIST

Sunday 3rd October 2010 - Weddin National Park

We were expecting a quiet couple of days in Weddin National Park (just west of Grenfell in NSW) but I guess that was just wishful thinking considering it was the October Long Weekend.  Ben Hall Campground was very popular (mainly with family groups) but we did manage to find a nice camp near the creek.  The campground is well set up with several toilet blocks and camping spots well separated to provide a little privacy.

After setting up camp we took the short walk to Ben Hall's Cave.  A pretty walk among the wildflowers and boulders.   The cave is supposedly where Ben Hall hid out - with a good view if anyone came after him.  If he saw the police coming he could race down to his trusty horse and disappear into the mountains.  When we were there there was a swarm of bees just above the entrance which created a bit of excitement.  Unfortunately, the cave is now fenced off with a pretty ugly fence which detracts somewhat from its appearance.  The view, however, is quite amazing.  You can see for many kilometres out across the flat areas approaching the mountains.
