TRIP LIST

Monday 11th September – Cardiff to Llwyncelyn

Pack up this morning ready to head west. With our plan to visit Peter and Penny "out the window" we had decided to visit the west of Wales instead.

Ray took me into the city to pick up the hire car, another Skoda Octavia which is probably a good thing as they have a large boot and seeing as there are three of us (Cate is coming with us as far as Edinburgh) along with luggage we need a fair bit of room.

Had a bit of a problem picking it up as I didn't have my passport with me and the electronic copy on my phone just wouldn't do.  Ended up coming back to Rhoose to get thye passport and picking up a car just down the road at the airport.  Don't forget your passport if you want to hire a car!!

After a coffee with Ray and Kath at the Rhoose Coffee Shop we were on the road west towards Fishguard and on to Dyffryn Fernant Garden. We had thought of going here on the day we went to Swansea but decided it was too far. Now that we are not visiting Peter and Penny we have a bit of extra time. The gardens are owned by the sister of Nick Shand (the founding Editor of our local independent newspaper, The Echo). Christina and her husband David shared their time with us in their lovely garden which is open to the public  – one of "Great Gardens of West Wales.

It was nice to reminisce about Nick who also trod the boards with the Drill Hall Theatre in the late 1980s. Their garden is just lovely and in a very picturesque setting with the Moore Country behind.

By this time, the day was getting on (5:30pm) so we needed to get back on the road for the 45 minute drive to Llwyncelyn where we have an Airbnb for the night. We booked in (a lovely little cottage) and then headed on to Aberaeron to the Harbour Inn for dinner. Food was good and the outlook over the harbour very pleasant.
