Rain again this morning, on and off, so we didn't go for a walk as we had planned.
Before heading off towards Denmark we called in at the farmers' market in Albany. It was only a small market but had good coffee and we also purchased strawberries and broccolini.
Called into the information centre to get a road report and discovered that the main road to Denmark was still closed because of the fires. Fortunately, there was another way (the Lower Denmark Road) so we managed to get out of town without too much trouble.
In Denmark, we found a nice park near the river for a toilet stop and a stretch of the legs before heading a little further west to Swiss Annie's Fine Chocolates, which we had seen on WikiCamps. There was a lovely garden with a chocolate timeline with lots of interesting information. It was a little strange, however, that the front doors were closed. Eventually, we found a door open and called out. Annie came to meet us and informed us that they were closed for May (apparently we had missed that sign at the turnoff). She was very kind and gave us some samples and had a chat about the history of the place before sending us on our way.
Next stop was at the Valley of the Giants Wine and Olives. Saw a paddock of deer along the way. We had headed off the highway to do the Valley of the Giants Circuit, saw the sign advertising the cellar door and thought “why not”. It was quite a drive in past olive plantations but a pleasant spot once we got there. Had quite a chat with the winemaker and purchased a bottle of red, a bottle of white, some lemon flavoured olives and some olive soap.
On to our camp for the night (with a few spectacular spots along the way) – Sid's Campground. We'd been reading up on WikiCamps about campsites around Northcliffe and under the comments for the Northcliffe Caravan Park there were several that said: “don't bother – go to Sid's”. So we did. A nice camping area. A little rustic but plenty of room and very friendly.
