TRIP LIST

Friday 18th August 2017 – Sligo to Letterkenny

After breakfast this morning we picked up our laundry and headed north. Called in to have a look at Streedagh Beach - supposed to be very nice and it probably was by Irish standards. We are spoilt for beaches in Australia. There was quite a lot of sand which is a bit unusual.
Steedagh Beach
Next stop, Bundoran for a coffee. Quite a little holiday town with a well-established fairground. We had our coffee at Wave which was catering for the surfing community.

A bit further along we called into Rossnowlagh Beach (another of Ireland's well-known beaches) just as it began to rain. A quick look indicated a long sandy beach. Interesting how they all drive on the beach over here in 2 wheel drive cars. There's obviously a difference in the consistency of the sand.

Rossnowlagh Beach
Lunch was at Donegal. On arrival, we called into the Information Centre for some new maps. A nice young man gave us a lot of useful information for the next few days and suggested the Castle Bar for lunch. And a good choice it was. I even splurged out and had Donegal lobster. Twenty-two Euros was a bit cheaper than you would pay in Australia. As usual, Jill had fish. This time Ocean Trout – it wasn't as impressive.

Donegal
From Donegal, we drove to Glenveagh National Park. We have now visited all of the National Parks in Ireland. We caught the shuttle bus up to the castle (about 4 kilometres with the intention of walking back. It had been raining on and off all day but had cleared somewhat this afternoon. Glenveagh Castle and its garden is a lovely spot.

Well worth the visit. The clearing in the weather, unfortunately, did not hold for the walk back and despite our raincoats and our 1.50 umbrellas (which disintegrated early into our walk), we were well soaked from the waist down by the time we got back to the car.

Bed tonight is in Letterkenny in another AirBnB. It's huge. A bedroom and a kitchen/lounge. Plenty of room to spread out and hang our wet things up to dry (perhaps). Pasta again for dinner tonight after our big lunch.

Have had difficulty finding somewhere to stay in Londonderry tomorrow night. First two requests came back no. That's the first time that's happened. Fortunately, request number 3 was successful.
