TRIP LIST

Friday 11th September - Miette Hot Springs, Jasper

Today has been our day for spotting animals. On the way into Jasper this morning we came across a Male Elk and his 'harem' of females.

Then on our way to Miette Hot Springs, we spotted both a herd of Big Horn Sheep (no ram though) and some Mountain Goats. At the springs we saw more big horned sheep and then this evening when we went for a drive there were elk everywhere - just wandering across the roads oblivious to the traffic. We also saw something a bit smaller with horns/antlers - not sure whether it was a younger male elk or perhaps a whitetail deer (probably the latter). We need an expert!

In addition to spotting animals, this morning we drove to Patricia and Pyramid lakes. Very clear water in these lakes, obviously not being fed from glaciers. There were some stunning reflections in the water.

We then drove out the Miette Hot Springs, 65km (or thereabouts) east of Jasper. We soaked for most of the afternoon. The hot pools were just on 40 degrees and the coldest pool was 16. Quite a variation. It was a lovely spot, outside, with a mountain backdrop and without the sulphur smell often associated with our hot springs in Australia.
The incredible reflections were repeated on our drive this evening at Beauvert Lake. Also visited Annette and Edith Lakes in our animal search.

Elk Everywhere just out of Jasper.
Back in a private room tonight at the Hi. The dorm was fine last night (we did end up with our corner to ourselves). We're up early tomorrow and are off to Kamloops.
