TRIP LIST

Friday, 2nd October - Westport to Valley Ford

Today we drove along the cliff face on a very high and very windy road for most of the day.  Quite scary but the views were stunning.  Still lots of sea stacks along the coast.  When we weren't 'hanging on' we did do a few other things:

Checked out the polished glass on Glass Beach at Fort Bragg (where many years ago their rubbish tip was throwing the rubbish into the sea.  The rubbish has been cleaned up but the glass remains);

drove through Mendocino a cute heritage town on the Big River; marvelled at the pygmy forest of stunted pines growing next door to full-sized ones (because of patches of poor acidic soils);

visited the lighthouse at Point Arena, had a great lunch at Gualala, searched for harbour seals at their 'nursery' near Jenner (the ranger said they had mostly gone by this time of year but there had been two on the beach yesterday);
and arrived at Bodega Bay tonight (well just out of Bodega Bay at a hotel in Valley Ford).  The hotel was originally built in the late 19th century but has been lovingly restored.

Spent a bit of time in Bodega Bay this evening, watched another beautiful sunset over the ocean, saw some deer on the headlands and finished up with a very nice seafood dinner at The Tides Wharf.
