TRIP LIST

Thursday 29th July 2021 - Caliguel Lagoon to Bonshaw Weir

After an enjoyable breakfast sitting next to the lagoon, it was back on the road south.  Called into Moonie (The Oil Capital of Australia they say) to a very clean information centre/library/gift shop/toilets.  Bought some date and apple chutney.  Not much at Moonie apart from the Information centre and a service station across the road and not a lot of evidence of oil extraction either so guess it must be away from the main road.

Next stop was, Goondiwindi where we parked by the Macintyre River and walked into town for lunch at "The Larder", a cafe with an outside eating area out the back.  Had Chicken Tikka curry and rice and shared a g/f brownie - and coffee!  Walked back along the river bank to car and camper.  Goondiwindi has a lovely walking track on the levee along the river.

On to Yelarbon (nice sculptures just out of Goondiwindi and impressive silo art at Yelarbon) and Texas where we crossed the border back into NSW at the border checkpoint.  We had organised our passes and were about to find them on our phone for the kind policeman only to be told he didn't need to see anything from us going into NSW, however, if we wanted to come back it would be a different matter.

And camp tonight was at Bonshaw Weir on the Dumeresque River (the NSW side).  So much water flowing over the weir.  We had thought that we might leave our border crossing until here (The weir is on the border and there is a border crossing).  It was just as well we hadn't as the gate is locked for locals use only which would have meant a drive back to Texas.

The weir was a lovely spot for our last night on the road.  Shared our campfire with a couple from Wollongbar who were on their way home from a trip to the Kimberley.

Home tomorrow.
